  IEEE Student Chapter

 

The IGIT IEEE Student Branch is one of the most active student branches under the Delhi Section, Region 10 (Asia Pacific). Established in 2004, the IGIT IEEE SB has progressed under the able mentorship of Branch Counselor Prof. S. B. Jain (HOD, ECE Dept.).

Under the IEEE activities, a number of weekly events have been conducted all around the year, like Technical Crosswords, Vocabulary, Techno-Pictionary, Hardware design quiz, to mention a few. The membership of the college has almost doubled with almost 120 new members every year making it the second college under the Delhi Section in terms of Student Members.

 

The annual IEEE technical festival “IMPULSE” is conducted every year. The event was a huge success with massive participation from colleges from Delhi and outside.

The Robotics event – “ROBO SOCCER”, in, an extremely popular event with number of teams participating from across India.

Events Organised

1. The All India Student Congress was held in Ahmedabad in September 2007, and three of our student members attended it.

2. This year, 5 of our student members were sponsored by the Delhi Section to attend the Region 10 (Asia Pacific) Student Congress held in Chennai, from the 28th-30th January, 2008. The conference was graced by dignitaries like Lewis Terman, IEEE President-2008, Dr. John Vig, IEEE President Elect-2008, Prof. Janina Mazierska, R10 Director, Dr. Karen Panetta, IEEE WIE Chair, Prof. Mini S. Thomas, R10 SAC, and many others.

3. The IGIT team won the “Best Exhibition Award” at the Exemplary Student Branch Exhibition held there.

4. The IGIT IEEE SB has made its presence felt at the Bi-annual meet at USIT, GGSIPU in October 2007, as well as in the two quarterly meets held this year in BVCOE on 22nd January and in MAIT on 29th March, 2008. One of our students has received the “Active Student Volunteer Pin” from Prof. Janina at the AGM held on the 9th February, 2008 which was attended by all Delhi Section EXECOM members and Students from various Student Branches under the Delhi Section. 4 students from our SB also attended the AGM, which was followed by an interaction with Prof. Janina.

5. The WIE Magazine was launched for the first time by IEEE in December 2007, and an article by one of our students was published in the Launch Issue.

6. IGIT Student Branch has been actively involved for the past quarter in the Global Integrated Network for IEEE (GINI) Project initiated at the R10SC for Networking amongst all IEEE R10 Student Branches. 3 of our students are a part of the Delhi Section GINI Committee.

7. The 3rd Quarterly Meet of the Delhi Section has been hosted successfully by IGIT on the 11th of September 2008 and was attended by 12 out of 13 student branches and partly sponsored by “Trump and Gates”. The Meet was started with the auspicious lighting of the lamp by our Chief Guest Prof. Mini S. Thomas, IEEE Region 10 SAC, Guest of Honor Dr. Prerna Gaur, IEEE Delhi Section SAC along with our Branch Counselor, Prof. S.B. Jain and Branch Mentor, Mr. Akash Tayal.

8. The IGIT IEEE Student Branch launched its first issue of the Student Branch e-Journal “e-Expresso” released by Prof. Thomas and Dr. Gaur at the quarterly meet. The journal has been appreciated by readers, specifically by GINI Pioneer Mr. Prijoe Phillips, and Mr. Dinu Sam, Assistant Manager of Federal Bank, Trivandrum and Vice President, IEEE LINK Kerala.

9. A large number of events have been already organized by the Student Branch every year:

1. A Barcamp.
2. A Dot Net Workshop.
3. An Alumni Speaks
4. An Inter College C/C++ quiz.
5. An IEEE Awareness seminar.
6. A YFBI Workshop.
7. A meeting on “Youth for National Defense”.
