The department of Information and Technology is the newest department set up at IGIT. The department aims at developing the fundamental conceptual knowledge along with the total personality, which helps engineers to face the challenges of rapidly changing IT industry. Technical skills, teamwork and specialized knowledge prepare these young engineers to adopt and continuously learn new technologies. The department became functional from 2010-11 session with an intake of 60 students and an MCA program with an intake of 60 students.

• To ensure total personality development of would be engineers

• To  impart specialized knowledge and skills to the students in the field of computers and information technology.

• To work in collaboration with other institutions/ industries.

The Computer Center is a common facility to all departments and equipped with a high end Server connected with 60 personal computer systems. All the computers are connected using local area network (LAN). The Server hosts software for various disciplines related to Computer Engineering and Information Technology like Oracle, Java, Microsoft Visual Studio, CASE Tool etc. Computer centre is also connected with the various labs in the campus using optical fibre in Client Server Computing environment. This has enhanced the ambit of Computer Centre by providing programming environment along with computational requirement of the users across the campus. The centre is also being used by the students of different departments for Internet access. All the computers in the centre are connected to uninterrupted power supply for safe operations .

•  Web Server Infrastructure

The IGIT website has been designed by the students of IGIT and updated periodically by server room staff. Presently, the Server room, IGIT is providing internet services to all the depts. of Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, University School of Mass Communication, University School of Architecture & Planning, University Center for Disaster Management Studies, Boy's Hostel, GGSIPU and Girls Hostel. Around 500 computers are installed in the entire campus which are being managed and maintained by the server room. The hostels use wi-fi routers for providing internet connectivity to hostel inmates.
