Besides giving a through grounding in basic sciences and engineering subjects  the curriculum  in mechanical and  automation engineering emphasises on deep understanding of applied mechanics, microprocessors, machine design, heat transfer, refrigeration and air conditioning, machine tools, metrology, robotics and CAD(CAM) etc.  The department has well-equipped laboratories in related fields and students are exposed to various modern equipment in the area of mechanical and automation . 

The department has an intake of 60 students in each year of B.TECH mechanical and automation engineering programme. 

Every year, numerous professional activities are held in the department. Some industries also offer avenues to students for manifestation of their innovative and creative talents. Moreover, the department does not merely provide up to date knowledge but is also equips the students with the soft skills and research aptitude in the field of mechanical and automation engineering..

The department has prestigious membership of SOCIETY OF AUTOMATIVE ENGINEERS (SAE) and constantly works for the development of the students by encouraging them to participate in the various competitions organized by the society.
