Spic Macay Chapter

Established by Dr. Kiran Seth in 1977 at IIT Delhi, SPIC MACAY is a non-governmental, non-profit and voluntary movement. The Society aims at having every child experience the inspiration and mysticism embodied in Indian and world heritage. With hundreds of chapters in cities all over India and abroad, SPIC MACAY conducts concerts of classical music, dance and folk arts, theatre, screening of classic films, heritage walks to monuments of historical and cultural significance, talks by eminent persons etc. in educational institutions in two series VIRASAT and FEST, every year.

SPIC MACAY is an affirmation of a priceless cultural heritage rooted in what is essentially Indian.The movement incorporates the vitality of the youngsters to cajole them into being custodian of what is actually their birthright, namely their heritage, roots and identity.Thus Its work is educational in spirit and character and locates itself in educational institutions only.It is the statement of the effectiveness of voluntary work in inculcating a spirit of service. This is, in fact, the hidden agenda of this movement.

 

Greensphere : The Eco club

GREENSPHERE, the environment club of IGIT, aims at increasing the environmental awareness among students. Some of the objectives of the club are:

•  To keep an account of the activities going on in and around the college and rate them as harmful or safe for the healthy development of our environment.

•  To acquaint upcoming engineers with the ways mankind is tampering with our mother nature.

•  To come up with new technical ways of combating the current problem of ‘Global Warming'.

•  To make the area in and around the campus a better place for the denizens.

•  To take up real time awareness projects for the development of campus area.

Initiatives taken up by Green sphere:

 The following activities have been taken up by the members of the club

 Vermi composting : Proper pits have been formed for vermi composting, wherein kitchen waste from hostel mess is used to generate good quality organic manure.

Recycling : Carton boxes have been placed around the campus to collect paper and plastic (segregated), generally strewn around the campus, for recycling.

Many NGOs like ICPE, TERI, CSE, and WWF are invited to conduct seminars in the college to increase awareness among the students and to help students in devising ways to implement the various methods of environment preservation with minimum amount of investment and resources. Also, Green activities like Environ mesh (green junkyard), Cycling Rally, Green Fair, T-shirt painting, and Documentary Screening etc. are organized on regular basis to keep the students motivated and add a fun element.

Green-sphere members perform plays at various orphanages in Delhi on the topics related to hazards faced by the environment so as to make the children aware of the environmental degradation.

 

Sports Club

This Sports Club is set up to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship and unity in the enthusiastic technocrats. The sports activities include volleyball, basketball, table tennis and badminton currently. The mission of sports club is to make IGIT the best college of IP university in sports as well with our girls shining in every sport.

Leaders for Tomorrow

Leaders For Tomorrow is a not for profit youth leadership movement established mainly in the college campuses to awaken the social consciousness of the youth, encourage volunteerism and social action among them. It organizes many programs and projects within the campuses and outside, to be able to provide a platform and encourage everyone to take up social action. LFT has had a long and strong association with IGIT too, along with the many other colleges under IP University. The organization, along with its volunteers from the college, had successfully organized a great number of activities last year, such as cleanliness drive, paper bag making competition, tree plantation drive, the Anti-Drug-Anti-Ragging campaign and many more.

 

Footloose : The Dance Society

Footloose is the dance Society of IGIT that inspires the students to utilize the wonderful art of dance to express true feelings and emotions. It encourages dance devotees of the college to master the art form and hone their talent to express vividly and beautifully. The Footloose Team of IGIT, named as BLAZE, is trained in a variety of dance forms and has always made an effort to present myriad forms of dancing, ranging from classical to folk, contemporary to hip hop, lyrical to ballroom dancing.

 

The strong passion for dance, the urge to express what is within, the craving to innovate and the desire to be the best, is what drives the members of BLAZE and helps them establish themselves as great, talented dancers who are always appreciated. The members continue to give their best to fulfill the Society's dream, year after year, with added zeal and vigor.

 

IGIT Dramatics Society

With the strength of over 50 girls, IGIT Dramatics Society stands tall and high. The society encourages and trains students members for street plays, one act plays and mono acting. Plays are directed, written, executed and staged by student members from time to time.
