IGIT is amongst the best engineering college in the State of Delhi. Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT) was established in 1998 by Directorate of Training and Technical Education, Govt. of NCT of Delhi as the first engineering college exclusively for women. In 2002, the college became the first constituent college of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. Over the years this college has blossomed into one of the most prestigious college of North India . Under the umbrella of GGS IP University the college has reserved 85% seats for Delhi girls and 15% for outside Delhi . The admission to this college is through a common entrance exam (CET) conducted by GGS IP University. The college attracts the best talent from Delhi and the girls have found placement in leading Indian Industries and admissions to prestigious Institutes of higher learning for postgraduate studies. It has attained a level of maturity and has made rich contributions to the growth of quality technical education and research among women during the last few years. Its alumni have excelled both in India and abroad, as the institution enjoys a high repute. The college has contributed significantly towards women empowerment and is moving ahead relentlessly on the path of growth and development.

The techno cultural fests of IGIT are organized every year to instill immense confidence, promote team work and to hone the managerial skill and organizing skills of the students. The festivals IMPULSE, XEBEC and TREMORS draw a lot of participation from engineering colleges with in and outside Delhi .

The college boasts of state of art labs and computing infrastructure on campus. All the faculty members of IGIT hold at least an M.Tech degree in their relevant discipline. Out of 40 faculty members working at IGIT, 14 are PhD's and 15 faculty members are pursuing PhD in various disciplines from prestigious Universities and institutions. The students of IGIT have been placed in prestigious companies like Microsoft, Mahindra and Mahindra, Tata Motors, Adobe, TCS, GE, Maruti Suzuki, CDOT, Hero Motors, Siemens, Infosys, Erricson, Vedanta, Oracle, SAP etc. The IGIT students are also recipients of prestigious Scholarships from Bharati Foundation and GE research.
