Prof. Prodyut Bhattacharya joined the University in April 2010. His postgraduate degree is in Botany with specialization in Forest Ecology and he has a Ph.D. in Botany from Dr. H.S. Gaur University (Centre University), Sagar. Dr. Bhattacharya is a recipient of the Young Scientist Award 1992 of the M.P.Council of Science & Technology. He is a fellow of Beahrs Environmental Leadership Program (ELP) of the University of California, Berkeley and has a fellowship (JSPS) under University of Tsukuba, Japan. He has done his postdoctoral research in Community Forestry and received advance training on community forestry from Kasetsart University Bangkok and the University of Naropa, Colorado, USA. His research interest pertain to Biodiversity Conservation, Sustainable NTFP Management and Livelihood development, Medicinal Plants, Forest Governance, Joint Forest Management Agro-forestry, Climate change, Certification and Sustainable Forest Management. Before joining GGSIP University, he worked at the Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal for 16 years, where he developed and set up the International Centre for Community Forestry (ICCF). He has 22 years experience in research, teaching and training in the field of Natural Resource Management. He has completed 10 international sponsored research projects of FAO, IIED, European Commission, IDRC, ITTO, DFID, IUCN, PRIMEF & 14 other national sponsored projects. He has over 100 publications, four books and traveled widely more than 25 countries. Member of different committees of Government of India and University board of studies.
